CleanWell Hand Sanitizer–not perfect, but better than the rest
Eco-parenting, Family August 22nd, 2007Did you know how much alcohol is in hand sanitizers? Enough to kill your kid if they swallow enough of it.
This is rather freaky. We use this stuff to keep our kids safe, and basically it’s poison.
My sister has a baby and asked me what to use, because she was worried about putting it on the baby’s hands since the baby always has her hands in her mouth. (she’s teething)
So I found this stuff called CleanWell Hand Sanitizer.
Pros: it’s non-toxic and safe for kids (yeah!!)
Cons: I can only find it on-line and it’s in a spray bottle rather than a pump (I find a pump more convienient.)
All the elementary kids here have to bring hand sanitizer as part of their school supplies, so I’m sending this.
That means that there’s probably one safe hand sanitizer, and 20 unsafe ones in the classroom (sigh!)
Here’s the ingredient list off the bottle of CleanWell (they don’t list it online!):
Thyme oil, aloe vera, natural citrus essence, naturally derived emulsifiers, oat-based protiens, organum, water.
I got it here.
Of course, this is ignoring the whole debate about whether or not we should be sanitizing our world. (Ever heard of super germs?)
Personally, I use cold water and a bit of soap to wash up. With small kids, though, sometimes they get into something that has to be cleaned off their hands right now. Which is what I use Hand Sanitizer for. (If you can’t imagine anything that has to be cleaned off a toddler’s hands immediately, you obviously haven’t spent any time around a toddler!)
